The Problem
You're paying for air.
The snack industry has quietly normalized deceptive packaging. A standard bag of chips is legally permitted to be more than 50% empty. Manufacturers call it "protective air." Consumers call it what it is — a rip-off.
The worst part? You can't tell. You squeeze the bag at the shelf and still have no idea how much product is actually inside. The bag is designed to feel full. It isn't.
There is no independent standard holding brands accountable. No certification that signals to a consumer on a shelf: this one is different. Until now.

Verified. Honest. Full.
The Certification
What the Honest Fill mark means
Independently Verified
Every Honest Fill certified product is audited by accredited third-party testing laboratories — not self-reported. We verify fill ratios against our published methodology at manufacturing scale.
Above Our Minimum Standard
To earn Honest Fill certification, a product must meet or exceed a 60% fill ratio by volume — eliminating deceptive slack-fill while accounting for legitimate settling and safety air.
Annually Recertified
Certification is not permanent. Brands undergo annual re-audits with surprise batch testing throughout the year. The mark means accountable — every single time.
Shelf Differentiation
Stand out on a crowded shelf with a mark that signals quality and honesty — before the consumer even opens the bag.
Regulatory Defense
Get ahead of FDA slack-fill enforcement and plaintiff class action litigation. Certification is documented proof of compliance.
PR & Marketing Asset
"The only chip brand certified to the Honest Fill standard" is a headline. Use the mark across packaging, advertising, and digital.
Premium Pricing Power
Consumers pay premiums for verified quality. The Honest Fill mark gives you the story to justify higher retail price points.
For Brands
The first brand to earn Honest Fill owns the story.
Consumer trust in packaged goods brands is at a decade low. Honest Fill certification is the fastest way to separate your brand from an industry that has spent years eroding consumer confidence. First movers get the PR, the shelf placement, and the premium.
Common questions
Who runs Honest Fill?
Honest Fill is an independent certification body. We are not affiliated with any brand, retailer, or trade association. Our board includes food scientists, consumer advocates, and packaging engineers.
What products can be certified?
Our current standard applies to snack foods in flexible and rigid packaging — chips, crisps, pretzels, popcorn, crackers, and similar products. We are developing standards for additional CPG categories.
How is fill ratio measured?
We use a combination of volumetric displacement testing and production-line statistical sampling. Our methodology is published in full on the Standard page.
What does certification cost?
Certification fees are structured by SKU count and brand size. See our full fee schedule on the Get Certified page.
